Definition and Social Function of Report Text

Report text sendiri yaitu jenis teks yang berfungsi untuk menggambarkan atau mendeskripsikan sesuatu menyerupai hewan, tumbuhan, tempat, atau objek lain.

Perbedaannya dengan descriptive text yaitu report text mendeskripsikan sebuah objek secara umum dan mewakili keselurhan dari jenis objek tersebut.

Sedangkan descriptive text mendeskripsikan objek tertentu yang tidak berlaku untuk objek lain meskipun sejenis.

Generic Structure of Report Text

Generic structure sanggup diartikan sebagai struktur yang membentuk sebuah text.

Untuk Report text, generic structurenya terdiri dari dua bab yaitu:

Title

Bagian title yaitu bab judul, bab judul harus mewakili keseluruhan dari isi text.

General classification

Bagian ini menyebutkan secara sepintas pembagian terstruktur mengenai atau jenis dari objek yang akan dideskripsikan.

Biasanya bab general classification juga sebagai paragraf pembuka dari report text.

Description

Bagian description merupakan bab inti dari report text, baigan ini berisi klarifikasi yang lebih rinci seputar bagian-bagian dari object yang sedang dideskripsikan, termasuk kebiasaan, tingkah laku, dan ciri-ciri lainnya.

Fireflies 

Fireflies are just name. They are actually very cool insects. And they are not even flies, they are beetles. They have a way of sending out light signals every now and then. If you see the at night on  a tree, you might think it is a brightly lit Christmas tree. That is the kind of light these fireflies produce.

Fireflies have transparent abdomen. There are cells of crystals or chemical substances inside it which get broken down by enzymes. Some energy is released in the form of light. But the light they send out does not have heat. The light is cold.

The fireflies send out light signals at fixed intervals. And the purpose behind it is to attract beetles for mating. But one firefly's signal is different from another's, depending on its sex and the type of family it belongs to. If a firefly sends a signal at a fixed interval but gets a response either too soon or too late, it will ignore the signal. It is like a perfect dance sequence. If you are faster or slower than your partner, the dance fails.

Coconuts

Coconuts are large palm, growing to 30 m tall, with pinnate leaves 4-6 m long. They produce large oval brown fruits which have hard woody husk surrounded by fibre, with edible white flesh and containing a clear liquid. They belong to the Family Arecaceae (palm family). The term coconut also refers to the seed of the coconut palm.

The flowers of the coconut palm are polygamomonoecious, with both male and female flowers in the same process of flowering. Flowering occurs continuously, with female flowers producing seeds. Coconuts also come with a liquid that is clear like water but sweet. The "Nut" of the coconut is in the shape of a ball or is on the inside sides of the coconut. Unlike some other plants, the palm tree has neither tap root nor root hairs; but has a fibrous root system. Old leaves break away cleanly, leaving the trunk smoothly.

The coconut palms grow on sandy soils and are highly tolerant of salinity. It prefers areas with much sunlight and regular rainfall (150 cm to 250 cm annually). Coconuts also need high humidity (70-80 %+) for optimum growth. Coconut palms require warm conditions for successful growth, and are intolerant of cold weather. Optimum growth is with a mean annual temperature of 27 C (80.6 F), and growth is reduced below 21 C (69.8 F). They may grow but not fruit properly in areas where there is not sufficient warmth, like Bermuda.

The coconut palms are grown throughout the tropical world. They are for decoration as well as for its many culinary and non-culinary uses. Every part of the coconut palm has some human uses. The coconut meat is edible and used fresh or dried in cooking. Coconut milk is made by processing grated coconut with hot water or milk. Coir (the fibre from the husk of the coconut) is used in ropes, mats, brushes, caulking boats and as stuffing fibre; it is also used extensively in horticulture for making potting compost. Coconut oil is used  in many ways including as a medicine and in cosmetics, or as a direct replacement for diesel fuel. Coconut trunks are used for building small bridges, preferred for their straightness, strength, and salt resistance. Still there are many advantages of coconuts that can be obtained.

Report text kadang dianggap sebagai salah satu text complex, hal ini alasannya beberapa report text yang mendeskripsikan hal-hal tertentu terutama yang berafiliasi dengan science atau medic biasanya memakai terminology tertentu yang jarang dipakai dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
